To see an alligator, was considered a very lucky omen to the people of Anamaboe and Dixcove in Ghana.

For a maiden to see an alligator in the water, foretells trouble.

The South American natives on the banks of the Orinoco river believe that an alligator, before going in search of prey, always swallows a large stone. They do this to give them the extra weight they need for diving and getting its victim underwater.

The Burmese once believed that the bite of an alligator would be harmless, if the king would issue an edict in the man’s favour.
